The Founders of smart-me AG
smart-me was founded in 2014 by the father-son team of David and Arnold Eberli. David has a background in software, and Noldy in hardware—a combination that provides the perfect foundation for developing smart-me products.

smart-me is with eCarUp and smart-RED has stakes in subsidiaries focused on expansion in the electric mobility sector and the German market, respectively. eCarUp offers a flexible yet straightforward platform for managing and billing electric charging stations in private, semi-public, and public settings. smart-RED represents our products on the German market, where there is an enormous demand for smart metering infrastructure and smart charging stations due to the growing number of tenant electricity projects.

2025 - Launch of the 3-point counter Nimbus 100A, stock acquisition eCarUp
- In April 2025, we were pleased to launch the new 3-point counter Nimbus 100A. This enables the easy integration of vCSC, CSC– and, in the future, LEG concepts into existing building structures.
- smart-me acquires 100% of the eCarUpshares
2024 - 10th Anniversary, MLM Release, VEWA Compliance for Billing, and Energy Tour
- With software product enhancements such as multilevel load management (MLM) and VEWA-compliant billing, we are launching the electric mobility and multi-energy business segments to broaden smart-me ’s scope.
- For the first time, we are participating in an Energy Tour alongside three other companies (eCarUp AG, modual, and Solar Manager) and have presented our solutions at three locations in Switzerland.
- We are now proud to count 29 employees with a great team spirit among our loyal staff.
2023 - Move to 18 Riedstrasse and MID certification for Pico
- After a short period, both the production facility and the office are back at the same location. In addition to more space for production, the new location also offers more space for the new employees (current headcount: 27 employees).
- smart-me 's Pico EV charging station also received the MID certification and may therefore be used for billing purposes.
2022 - Launch of the " Pico " EV charging station and award at the Watt d’Or
- With Pico we launched our first electric vehicle charging station. Pico is the Swiss high-tech charging station that connects directly to the cloud via Wi-Fi or cellular networks. With an integrated MID-certified smart meter, Pico provides highly accurate measurement data. This charging station can be seamlessly integrated into backends, energy management systems, and other third-party systems. Pico not only features efficient static load management to optimize energy usage but also offers dynamic MLM for intelligent control in any building.
- We received a certificate at Watt d’Or for our work on the “NeuRaum” development project.
2021 - Launch of the 3-phase meter Telstar CT and larger office spaces
- With the launch of the 3-phase meter Telstar CT , we completed our energy management solution.
- Production will remain at Lettenstrasse 9, and the offices will move into new, larger spaces in the same building.
2020 - Launch of the Telstar 3-phase meter
- The completely redesigned 3-phase meter was launched.
2019 - 5th Anniversary of smart-me!
- As we celebrated our fifth anniversary, we also made the transition from a startup to a young company. We now have twelve employees.
2018 — Move into new offices, MID certification, and receipt of a label and award
- smart-me It now employs nine people. Due to our growth, we moved into larger offices in the same building.
- The 3-phase meter has received MID certification and may therefore be used for billing purposes.
- We received the SEF.High Potential SME designation and won the xplor Startup Award.
2017 - Founding of smart-Red GmbH (Germany) and eCarUp AG, as well as the launch of the 3-phase meter
- smart-me founded, together with the ABM Group from Dornstadt (Germany) the subsidiary Smart-Red GmbH.
- Together with Energie Thun AGsmart-me AG founded the subsidiary eCarUp AG. With the eCarUp backend , electric charging stations can be easily billed, monitored, and maintained.
- smart-me launched the first version of the 3-phase meter.
2016 - Relocation and Launch of smart-me Billing
- smart-me The company moved its headquarters from Rickenbach (SZ) to Rotkreuz (ZG), and the team has grown to 5 employees.
- The smart-me Billing system has been launched.
- smart-me It beat out twelve other startups and won the DigitImmo 16 Award.
2015 — Launch of the single-phase meter, first employee, and winner of the Axpo Energy Award
- smart-me launched with the single-phase meter the first product designed for business owners.
- At the same time, we were able to recruit our first employee—a field sales representative—for smart-me (he’s still with us today!).
- smart-me received the Axpo Energy Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the energy industry.
2014 - Founding of smart-me GmbH and crowdfunding campaign
- David and Noldy Eberli founded smart-me GmbH with the goal of digitizing the energy sector.
- The development of the smart-me plug was funded through a crowdfunding campaign. The plug is a power outlet adapter with Wi-Fi connectivity.
