smart-me AG’s new Telstar 3-phase energy meter offers a new level of data resolution and availability, as the Telstar provides all the data needed for energy management, smart grids, energy monitoring, customer interfaces, and all other applications based on energy data.
smart-me is launching a new energy meter that connects to a smart cloud via Wi-Fi or cellular networks. This makes real-time energy data widely accessible and usable. With this innovation, the entire energy system—from generation to consumption—becomes more efficient and sustainable.
Energy in the Digital Age
More digital and decentralized—thanks to renewable energy, energy systems will undergo rapid change in the coming years. “With the Telstar meter, power grids become smart grids,” says David Eberli, founder and CEO of smart-me AG. “With Telstar, both utility companies and end customers can monitor energy flows in real time and, most importantly, optimize them.” The measured energy can be used more efficiently at both the household and distribution grid levels.
One meter—many uses
smart-me is gearing up for the future of energy with the new meter—a future powered primarily by renewable energy. The meter sets new standards in data resolution, precision, and security. It thus contributes to the sector coupling of buildings and e-mobility, the development of the smart grid, and ultimately to the energy transition.
The Telstar is the first meter to include a standard cellular interface. However, if there is no cellular reception at the meter’s installation site, this does not mean the digital electricity meter cannot function. Alternatively, like all smart-me devices, the meter can also communicate via Wi-Fi in real time. In addition, there are fully automated interfaces to third-party systems, such as billing and building management systems. With this wide range of options, virtually any metering task can be carried out using the latest smart-me device.
Privacy and Security
Scalability and security were key considerations in the development of the smart-me Telstars. Billing data is handled separately from customer interface data to ensure that data is disaggregated in compliance with regulations for billing by utility companies.
About smart-me
smart-me smart-me develops both the energy meters and the software required for a comprehensive energy management system. End customers, prosumers, and energy providers use technology to measure and visualize energy flows, optimize self-consumption, and bill for energy. All of this happens in real time and covers all types of energy (electricity, water, heat, gas). Since its founding in 2014, over 100 partners have connected more than 55,000 measurement points to the cloud. The company consists of a 20-person team and is headquartered in Rotkreuz (ZG), Switzerland.
